Question 1
A&D Company is an online healthcare retailer. Below is the level 1 data flow diagram of the company’s online sales process:
1. Describe the process ‘1.3 Checkout’ as indicated in the data flow diagram. State clearly the data it obtains, the source of the obtained data, the data it outputs, and the destination of the output data. For example, you need to state that the data it obtains from shopping carts consists of items and the quantity. (Hint: you may assume that the process comprises three steps: 1) gather necessary information, 2) confirm payment, 3) generate sales order.)
2. To improve customer service, A&D Company wants to add an additional process to respond to customer inquiries. The process should be able to display the status of any outstanding sales orders to customers and allow customers to cancel any unshipped orders. Suggest the sources and destinations that the process needs to connect to. You do not need to describe the data processed.
3. A system designing team member suggests that when a customer requests to cancel an outstanding order, the responding process should just delete the entry of the sales from the sales order storage. Explain the potential problem of this method and suggest an alternative way of handling the request.
