Part I-‐‑ Proposal/Overview-‐‑summary
For this part, you will write a proposing and summarizing the project. It needs to include:
A proposal of your main idea(s)
A clear statement of the ethical issue that your campaign will challenge, or an ethical issue that your campaign will champion.
Who is your intended audience and why?
A summary or overview of the project. Here you should reference each media item that you create and explain what it should be conveying and why (of course if the media item does its job then it should be obvious what it is trying to say).
Part II-‐‑ Why is it an ethical issue?
For this part you will write a short paper arguing specifically why it is an ethical issue. Here you should use some of the tools from this class. You could refer to Kant’s argument for the absolute dignity of human persons. You could discuss Aristotle and virtue, etc…, or discuss both. For example, maybe the ethical issue is deceit. Then you argue why deception is wrong in that it uses other persons as tools, etc… Or maybe the ethical issue has to do with businesses or products that cultivate vicious habits in people. Then you could argue, following Aristotle that it is wrong because of the harm it has for a person’s character, etc…
The main thing I am looking for here is that you have a clear ethical issue and that you give good reasons to think that it is either ethical or unethical. You could frame this short paper as a persuasive essay written (or presented) to the board of a business where some of the members are skeptical that ethics has any place in business.
Part III-‐‑ Media Items
For this part, you will create at least three media items that make up your campaign. These will be graded on aesthetic appeal and on how clearly they communicate the intended message. If you want to do a video ad, then you must meet with me to get it approved.
