A researcher interested in unconscious behavior hypothesizes

Question 3b: A researcher interested in unconscious behavior hypothesizes that people touch their faces more when they are nervous. She makes one sample of n = 15 people anxious by having them complete a public speaking task (nervous group) and compares them to another sample of n = 17 people who work on a neutral puzzle task (neutral group). She counts the number of times participants touch their faces in each condition and finds that each group makes on average x̅-nervous = 4 touches and x̅-neutral = 6touches. If the null is true and task has no effect on face touching, then there should be no difference between the groups. The Sums of Squares for each group was found to be SS-nervous = 48 and SS-Neutral = 44.

Determine the correct test and determine whether there was a significant difference between the two conditions using alpha set at .05.

1. Report Sample t value:

2. Report T critical value(s):

3. Write a one sentence conclusion of your test:

Hint
Statistics The t-critical value used in significance testing refers to the cutoff between holding or declining the null hypothesis. When the t-statistic value is bigger than the t-critical it signifies that it is past the x-axis on it, therefore, the null hypothesis is rejected and the substitute hypothesis is taken...
