"IRAC method is a framework for organizing an answer to a business law essay question.
The basic structure is:
1. Issue,
2. Rule,
3. Analysis, and
4. Conclusion.
Issue: The answer should begin by stating the issue presented by the essay question. Sometimes the question provides the issue. If not, then 'What is the legal question that, when answered, determines the result of the case?' should be asked. The issue rather than general form, should be stated in the form of a question in a specific.
Rule: The rule describes which law or test applies to the issue and should be stated as a general principal, and not a conclusion to the particular case being briefed.
Analysis: The analysis is the most important, and the longest, part of the answer and involves applying the 'rule' to the facts of the problem or question. The facts should be used to explain how the rule leads to the conclusion. Both sides of the case must be discussed.
Conclusion: The conclusion is the answer to the Issue."
