4 It’s not by accident that examples of special relativity tend to involve light signals and trains. In the chapter from his book in this week’s reading, Peter Galison draws a connection between highly abstract arguments about the nature of space and time, and strictly technological advances in the late 19th century (see under ”readings” in the files section on Canvas). He thus suggests that Einstein’s seemingly humdrum work in the Swiss Patent Office might in fact be crucial to his thinking about fundamental physics. Briefly describe two connections between 19th century technology and the ideas that Einstein explored in developing special relativity (one paragraph each is fine).
