Assignment Brief and Guidance

Scenario:

You work as a technical analyst for a large publisher of engineering text books. One of their well-known authors has set a number of further problems in her latest draft engineering text, aimed at the level five engineering market. She wishes to set these further problems throughout the text and intends to provide the worked solutions on a companion website for the new book. The author has asked you to provide these worked solutions. The further problems are given in the following tasks: -

Activity 1:

Part 1

Refer to the circuit below.

 Using individual values at the end of the assignment, determine the three resistor currents using;

a) Mesh Analysis – preferably employing determinants to identify solutions.

b) Nodal Analysis.

c) Superposition.

Part 2

Consider the network below;

Select either a mesh, nodal or superposition method to determine the three resistor currents, explaining the reason(s) for your chosen method.

Part 3

Consider the RLC circuit below.

Determine;:

a) The resonant frequency.

b) The Q-Factor at resonance.

c) The bandwidth at resonance.

Also,

d) Determine and draw a phasor diagram for the resonant circuit.

Activity 2:

1. Show clear, logical steps to all working out in Activity 1.

2. Produce accurate solutions to the problems in Activity 1 and justify each method used, using technical language appropriately and in a professional manner.

Hint
Engineering Mesh analysis is a technique used to measure the current and voltages at any given point of an electrical planar circuit. A planar circuit unlike the loop circuit can be drawn on a surface without the wires crossing each other.  The analysis uses the Kirchhoff’s voltage law to generate equation suitable for solution....
