Your assignment is to apply an inventory management model to a real world problem. You are given a recode of demand as well as the current inventory reorder strategy. The assignment is to make use of the Cycle Service Level and Safety Inventory concept to see if you can improve the inventory position. The problem sets out short consulting task and you must consider your audience. The client does not want to know which cells you named or which formula was used to index tables. They do want to know what problem you set out to solve and how you abstracted the problem into a mathematical model. What was the objective function? What assumptions were implemented? What is the solution?
Because you only have 2 weeks, we are not requesting a full report. We do want to you layout your result in 4 uncluttered PowerPoint (or other) slides and save this to PDF format.
Slide 1 Spell out the problem you intend to solve
Slide 2 Set out the method you will use
Slide 3 Present the base case (i.e. their current inventory plan)
Slide 4 Suncintly show the comparisons between the three suggested levels of CSL (called service level agreement in the case) and the base case. Make a recommendation.
The evidence of your model is in the spreadsheet we do not want you to be writing equations, explaining the spreadsheet inner workings in your slides. Remember the audience want to know what you did and why you took that approach and, ultimately, what impact does the solution have on the inventory costs at Vertilisers
