What is my context for writing?
You are a preservice teacher in your first week of professional experience. As a way of formatively assessing your readiness to take over the class, your supervising teacher has asked you to locate two resources texts relevant to Year 8 and design a learning episode to be used in a part of a lesson.
Your supervising teacher wants you to demonstrate that you are familiar with the various features of the Australian Curriculum (AC) English, and show competence in personal literacies.
Genre: explanation, justification
Purpose: explain how and justify why the texts and learning episode you’ve selected are suitable to be included in a year 8 English lesson
Audience: your preservice teacher
What is my task?
Locate two texts relevant to Year 8 English that could be used in a single lesson.
Explain how the resources could be used in a teaching episode; that is, in one or two connected parts of a lesson. Justify your choices.
You should choose one extended text and one complimentary text; that is, one that provides contextual information (field knowledge) about the main text.
What do I need to do to complete this task?

• 1-2 content descriptions (or part of) from the AC
• An explanation and justification for what will happen in the learning activity/episode, including the specific strategy/ies you would use and the pedagogical approach aligned with your activity/episode design.

• Either a general capability or a cross curricular priority.
