Question 1
Are the distributions the same?
Table 1 contains the fatalities due to traffic accidents within Australia during 2018. The total number of fatalities during 2018 was 1,135.
Your task is to determine whether the distribution of fatalities (across states) is the same as for the distribution of population.
(i) Develop R code to load the above data within a single data frame. Include labels for the rows and columns. Also briefly describe key parts of your code.
(ii) Using R, produce two different bar plots showing how the distributions of fatalities and population vary. The difference between the two plots should be to highlight key insights. Make the two plots worthy of inclusion in a business report or research paper.
(iii) Briefly describe what each plot shows and make a prediction whether a statistically significant difference exists for the distributions. Briefly declare which plot you consider most useful and why?
(iv) Perform a hypothesis test, in order to determine whether the distribution of fatalities is different to the distribution of population. In answering this step, make sure you clearly include the following:
• The Null and Alternative Hypotheses used
• Any assumptions, or important details / parameters used
• Declare the result of the hypothesis test
• Briefly interpret the meaning of the hypothesis test result
• State whether the result was as expected
