In this problem we will study the impact of the inlet temperature to the turbine

Question 2:

In this problem we will study the impact of the inlet temperature to the turbine on the performance of a simple gas power plant (Brayton Cycle). Vary the inlet temperature to the turbine in steps of 100ºC from 1500ºC to 1800ºC – i.e. 1500ºC, 1600ºC, 1700ºC and 1800ºC.

The compressor pressure ration is 20. The inlet temperature to the compressor is 300 K.

Plot how the η, BWR, net work done in kJ/kg, heat added in kJ/kg, heat exhausted out in kJ/kg and the temperature at the exhaust of the turbine in ºC – would change for the inlet temperatures to the turbine.

Do the calculations using actual properties.

Is it justified to go for higher temperatures? Discuss the results. Express in detail what you can conclude from your calculations.
