Appendix B - Guidelines for the Presentation
The pre-recorded PowerPoint presentation forms part of your overall project assessment.
• Only the first supervisor and the examiner will assess the presentation.
• The duration of your pre-recorded presentation should be no more than 3-4 minutes.
➔ Project Presentation:
You should consult your supervisor concerning the structure and content of your material, and the need for any special audio/visual aids. You may also wish to discuss your presentation with your personal tutor and to practice it with your fellow students beforehand. The main purpose of this presentation is to assess your (a) achievements against the previously set out project aims and objectives, (b) understanding of key scientific/theoretical and/or experimental concepts/skills, (c) systematic engagement with project tasks, (d) presentation skills.
Typical structure and content of the presentation
Introduction
Introduce yourself and the title of the project.
Overview of Project
What is the project about and what are your proposed aims?
What work has been done previously? What are your main objectives?
Achievements of the project What have you completed?
Has the work proceeded according to the project aims?
Explain any delays that may have occurred.
What changes have you made to your original project plan?
Conclusions
Summarise the key achievements
List any major issues encountered and how they can be addressed in future Explain how the achievements of your project can be exploited in future work.
General guidance
• Restrict the number of slides to a reasonable level as the audience needs time to absorb the information while listening to you.
• Keep the slides or transparencies simple with large clear text, and no more than four or five concise bullet points per slide. Font size should generally be >20pts for clear reading. Remember that the slides will be viewed on a computer screen/ tablet.
• Once you have developed your slides, you can record your audio narration for each slide. This can be accessed in the Slide Show menu and the ‘Record Slide Show’ function.
