Activity 1: Review diversity policy and provide suggestions for improvements
Description of the activity
This activity requires you to review the existing organisational diversity policy and provide suggestions for improvements.
You must use the template provided to document your response.
To review the existing diversity policy and incorporate improvements, you are required to:
• Locate the organisational diversity policy
• Review organisational diversity policy against the applicable legislation and check if they comply with the legislative requirements. The diversity policy must be assessed against the following legislation:
o Age Discrimination Act 2004
o Disability Discrimination Act 1992
o Racial Discrimination Act 1975
o Sex Discrimination Act 1984
o Australian Human Rights Commission Act 1986
o Equal Opportunity Act 1984
• Identify the application of diversity policy, i.e. the work areas addressed in the diversity policy
• Assess the currency of diversity policy. Consider the following questions:
o Does policy reflect any amendments to legislation?
o Does policy reflect current trends in managing diversity, including support and inclusion programs
• Assess the efficacy of diversity policy.
o Does the policy achieve what it has set out to?
• Suggest improvements in the diversity policy.
After reviewing the existing policy, you must complete the template provided.

Suggested improvements
May be able to suggest a range of improvements following a formal review, staff feedback, observations and informal discussions. Follow the organisation’s procedures for implementing suggestions, such as preparing a formal report to management, discussing the improvements with staff and ensuring training is organised.
