Use one element per section and neglect self-weight

Problem 2

Stepped beam has the following dimensions: depth d = 0.1 m, length a = 1.2 m, widths w1 = 0.08 m, w2 =0.06 m and w3 = 0.04 m. Assume E = 210 GPa and P = 7 kN. Use one element per section and neglect self-weight. Solve by hand and determine:

a) all deflections and rotations

b) all support reactions

c) max stress at the left end of the beam

d) sketch of the deformed shape

e)

You may use engineering software of your choice to solve the resulting reduced GSLE (the rest of the steps leading to the reduced GSLE must be performed by hand). Make sure to describe your solution steps.

Hint
ManagementIn engineering, deflection is the degree to which a part of a structural element is displaced under a load (because it deforms). It may refer to an angle or a distance. The deflection distance of a member under a load can be calculated by integrating the function that mathematically describes the slope of the deflected shape of the member under that load....
