The graphs are from an article titled “Climate change: Which vegan milk is best?” from BBC news website dated 9 January 2019, and the originals are in colour. You should make use of Tufte’s principles of Graphical Integrity and the IBCS guidelines together with other relevant theory and/or practice.
b) These are the only two graphs in the article. Propose one or more additional graph(s) that may have been helpful to the reader of the article, giving your reasons.
QUESTION B2:
Between November 2016 and January 2017 South Gloucestershire Council carried out a consultation into its budget which included the following section.
a) Calculate an approximate Tufte’s Lie Factor for segment A (Other services 19%) and segment B (Community Care and Housing 18%) using the following version of the graphic with a grid superimposed. Show your working.
b) Tufte suggests using the logarithm of the lie factor in comparing overstatement with understatement, use the graph to explain why this is.
c) With reference to relevant theory and best practice, what other improvement(s) would you suggest to the graph? Provide a rough sketch of what your made over graph would look like.
