Task 1 - Patient categories for fee purposes

When working in a medical environment you will be dealing with different categories of patients, all of whom will be charged differently for the medical services and treatment provided by the doctor. Patients often request information on the charges for these services.

These are the categories of patient you have learned about in this unit:

• Private patients

• Public patients who are bulk billed

• Veterans Affairs patients

• Worker's compensation patients who have sustained injuries and whose medical treatment is covered by insurance

The treating doctor will obtain a different payment for each category of patient.

Activity

Taking each category of patient separately, state the advice you will give to each patient in the following table.

Your answer should include who pays for the treatment and how the account could be paid. You must give at least one point for each category of patient.
