Part D – Performance review
Briefing Notes
You are playing the role Meredith Jones who is a Business Analyst on a project for Thomas and Brian Brown Pty Ltd. Thomas and Brian Brown Pty Ltd is an organisation that has been in business for 17 years. Thomas Brown and his brother Brian are the owners of the company. The company provides warehousing services to a wide range of clients.
Thomas Brown has decided to take steps to increase the productivity and update the technology used by the business. He will sponsor this project. To start with, Thomas would like to update all of the computers used in the offices so that they can implement new software later in the year.
Meredith feels that the workplace does not support her role. There is a common misconception that analysts are there to assess workers. As such, most of the employees will not communicate with her or provide her with the necessary information to complete her tasks.
Meredith has also missed deadlines. This was partly due to the lack of cooperation from other employees but also a result of unclear instructions. The dates were not included in the work briefs she was provided.
After discussing Meredith’s performance, you build a development plan. The following are potential additional responses that you can provide (although you are free to create your own responses):
• A personal conflict with one or more of the other members of the project team is making it difficult for you to participate in the project
• You are struggling to juggle your project role with other activities you are required to complete for the IT department
• You feel that you could improve your communication skills to make it easier for you to interact with other team members
• You would like to improve your time management skills
You conducted a performance review with Meredith in response to the conflict situation. Your review covered:
• A review of performance against agreed criteria
• A review of the employee’s skills
• Options to address the skill gaps
Submit the review that you would have completed in accordance with workplace policies and procedures using Appendix 2.
