QUESTION B3: An Analysis of the spread Coronavirus (COVID-19) Pandemic across countries

This question is based on your own data collected over the period 5/3/2020 and 1/5/2020.

a. Your original data should be stored in the data file called COVID19GLOBAL.xlsx in worksheet ‘Raw data’. In a new worksheet called Tables, enter country names in the first column (column A) and Number of positive COVID-19 confirmed cases and number of deaths in columns B and C for the first date. Then columns D, E and F for country, confirmed cases and deaths for the next date, and so on. Then you need to make sure that the country names align for different dates. First copy with the country name for each date. Once the country names align, you can remove the country name columns. The best way to do this is to first sort the data each day by largest to smallest (number of confirmed cases) and then copy the data, so that most of the newly included countries would appear at the bottom. Note that some ranking order will be different on different days. You need the data for the top 10 countries (ranked based on the last day of your data collection), then the rest of the countries’ total as ‘Other’ and the last row for the ‘Total’ for the data period. Then copy the worksheet and make separate worksheets for ‘Confirmed cases’ and ‘Deaths’.

b. Draw an appropriate chart to show the trend in the total cumulative number of confirmed cases globally during the data period. Comment on your chart.

c. Draw an appropriate chart to show the trend in the total cumulative number of deaths globally during the data period. Comment on your chart.

d. Draw an appropriate chart to show the trend in the cumulative number of confirmed cases for the top 5 countries during the data period. Compare the trend in the 5 countries

e. Draw an appropriate chart to show the trend in the cumulative number of deaths for the top 5 countries during the data period. Compare the trend in the 5 countries.

f. Consider the data for the top 10 countries and ‘Other countries’ on the first day of your data collection (e.g., 5/3/2020). Use an appropriate chart to show the share of the (i) number of confirmed cases (ii) number of deaths in the 10 countries in the world total (combine the rest of the countries as ‘Other’).

g. Consider the data for the top 10 countries and ‘Other countries’ on the last day of your collection (e.g., 1/5/2020). Use an appropriate chart to show the share of the (i) number of confirmed cases (ii) number of deaths in the 10 countries in the world total (combine the rest of the countries as ‘Other’).

h. Based on your answer to parts f and g, compare how the share has changed between the first and last day of your data collection.

i. Write a brief analysis of how the COVID-19 pandemic has spread across countries by looking at the rate the number of countries have increased during your data collection period.

j. Based on your data, in your opinion, comment on which countries have been successful and which countries are of concern in dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic.

"a)

draw class interval on x axis and cumulative frequency on y axis.

Cumulative frequency = sum of all preceeding frequencies."
