Q Language and Culture. Attempt two of the following: The various definitions and combinations of the word Culture 8 in the light of Said’s book, How can Culture be Xenophobic? U may consider real instances as recent events in the media to support your views! 3/ A Must Discuss one of the two novels of today: Dickens or Conrad as an example of what Said sees as an imperialist work! U need to give a good background to his argument.

Poetry: Look at Donald Allen’s New American Poetry and explore it in terms of its various schools and the type of poetry at least the poets of two schools write! Look at Alan’s Ginsberg The Howl and discuss the issues around which it revolves OR Creeley’s The Warning!

I fully understand u need some time to read and understand Lord Jim. I encourage u to watch it’s movie! If u do, write your own impressions how Lord Jim impress u in the sense that I want you to write about your impressions about the movie and not with my respect the words in enotes about the story! U should attempt two of these Qs

2/ Look at specific quotes to show that Lord Jim is a psychological novel revealing the extent of its protagonist’s anguish, remorse, embarrassment and feelings of regret! How do these mixed emotions affect his actions! 3/ Explore Lord Jim as an imperial novel looking carefully at his period in Patusan and his role as a reputable leader! 4/ Study Lord Jim as an excellent example of a novel about storytelling!
