Assignment Prompt:
Researchers have developed a non-opioid medication for people suffering with phantom limb pain. They are conducting clinical trials to see whether the treatment is effective at various dosages.
A total of 30 volunteers with phantom limb syndrome are recruited for the study. The scientists use random assignment to place the volunteers into three groups. The people in the High Dose group take a pill containing 10 mg of the active ingredient. The people in the Low Dose group take a pill containing 5 mg of the active ingredient. The people in the Control Group take a placebo (a pill with no active ingredient).
The researchers measured the participants’ pain by administering the PEG Pain Screening Tool. Scores on this measure range from 0 to 10 where 0 indicates that the person reports no daily pain and 10 indicates that the person reports a great deal of daily pain that interferes with their functioning and enjoyment of life.
Does the medication affect phantom limb pain? Use an alpha level of .05.
Use jamovi to find the answers to the items below:
1. What is the p-value for the ANOVA? (report to 3 decimal places) ______
2. What is your decision regarding H0 if alpha is .05? (Heads up! Your conclusion should be 4 statements.
3. What is the p-value for the Tukey Test comparing the pain scores for the Placebo group to the Low Dose group? (report to 3 decimal places) ______
4. What is the p-value for the Tukey Test comparing the pain scores for the Placebo group to the High Dose group? (report to 3 decimal places) ______
5. What is the p-value for the Tukey Test comparing the pain scores for the Low Dose group to the High Dose group? (report to 3 decimal places) ______
6. Which pairwise comparison(s) is/are statistically significant? Check all that apply.
● Placebo versus Low Dose
● Placebo versus High Dose
● Low Dose versus High Dose
