One Sample t-Test
Intro Statistics for Social Sciences (Professor April Garcia Peck)
Prepare: Watch the jamovi video lessons for Lesson 9.
Dataset needed: jamovi Dataset - Lesson 09.omv
Assignment Prompt:
Since the mid-1800's, the average human body temperature has been believed to be 98.6 degrees Fahrenheit (μ = 98.6, σ = unknown). Recently, physicians have found an intriguing pattern; human body temperature may be decreasing. One idea is that humans experience less inflammation and infection than people did 170 years ago. A health researcher recruited a random sample of 25 participants who consented to having their temperatures measured. Is modern human body temperature lower than the average from the mid-1800's? Test this hypothesis using an alpha level of .05.
Use jamovi to find the answers to the items below:
1. What is t-obtained? Report to 2 decimal places AND include the sign whether it is negative (-) or positive (+). ______
2. What is the mean body temperature for the sample? (report to 2 decimal places) ______
3. What is the standard deviation for the sample? (report to 2 decimal places) ______
4. What is the p-value? (report to 3 decimal places) ______
5. What is your decision regarding H0?
